FACTS

Everywhere you look, the sons, daughters and grandget of the legendary Imperial Imdal are influencing the breed: champions in manny different countries passing on their beauty, charisma and winning ways to succeeding generations. One of the finest Imdal grandsons was late coming to the party, however. Asami Ruuh, a foal of 1999, almost didn’t get his time to shine. “I bred 'Sami‘ and sold him as a yearling,“ relates his breeder Sharon Litizzette. “Due to abuse and neglect, I took him back as a four year old two years ago. He had been nearly crippled by an incompetent farrier and is actually not fully recovered from that.“ His tendons are still relaxing but the improvement has been profound, continues and will be complete. Sami is barefoot and competes that way, no fancy footgear for him and he trots nearly level without it. Sami has an amazing show record with wins in halter and performance and high scores in dressage to his credit. At the Egyptian Event in Lexington he is a household name: In 2000 and 2001 he was Top Ten Futurity Colt and Top Five World Class Colt and in 2002 he was named Reserve Champion World Class Colt and Top Five Futurity Colt. In 2003 he competed again at the Event, this time he started in his first performance classes as well. The results speak for themselves: Reserve Champion Futurity Colt, Top Five Champion Hunter and Top Five Hunter Novice Horse. Quite an accomplishment for a then four year old horse! Sami is a horse of destiny, a “can-do“ horse who offers tremendous potential.

PEDIGREE

Sami is the successful combination of Gleannloch, Ansata and Dr. Nagle’s breeding – with the added bonus of the immortal Nazeer son Ramses Fayek, who was noted for his flawless body and great stamina. Sami stems from the very rare Abbayan Um Jurays strain. His dam dam, Noble Imdalia (Imperial Imdal x Anisah by Malik), goes in tail female line to Dr. Nagel’s famous foundation mare, Hanan. This puts Sami in an illustrious family shared with such greats as Asfour in Australia and the late Safir in Qatar. Sami is sired by the brilliant Hadaya El Tareef (Imperial Imdal x Hadaya Nmerytaten), one of the most successful straight Egyptian show horses of his era. Being by an Imperial Imdal son and out of an Imperial Imdal daughter, Sami is very much a look-a-like of this legendary stallion. His pedigree is filled with champions and champion producers, but what is even more appealing is his own true Arab style and charm, an Arabain lover’s horse. He has type, substance, excellent action and those deep and soulful “Imdal eyes“.

PERSONALITY

“Our trainer was giving a lesson on a gelding several days ago and the student, a young girl, was having trouble communicating with the horse,“ Lizette explains. There was a personality conflict, timid rider, grumpy horse. “So our trainer put the girl on Sami and she did great. On that same day, a lady brought a stallion in for the two of them to have a lesson together. The stallion was not behaving and would not respond to her leg cues at all. So this lady also was put on Sami so she could feel correct responses from a willing horse. Both of these people went away raving over Sami!“ Isn’t that the best advertising for this wonderful stallion? “He is very loyal and protective to his human herd,“ says Sharon Litizzette. “If one of them is talking to a stranger and voices raised in greeting or teasing, Sami becomes very upset and begins calling and kicking the wall of his stall.“ Like a true desert horse of the past, he loves people and attention but is suspicious of people he doesn’t know.
